The Toyota Camry Hybrid arrives in China
Toyota has just announced the official start of production and marketing of the Toyota Camry sedan hybrid in China 100%, at an opening ceremony hosted by GAC Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. (CGWG), the joint venture in Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. Ltd. and Toyota.
CGWG plans to commercialize a first step the model by 107 of its dealers, and ultimately, to extend to the entire network. Approximately 350 people attended the ceremony, including government officials, suppliers and dealers and the media.
More than half a million units of the Toyota Camry conventionally powered (non-hybrid) have been commercialized in China since its launch in June 2006 (figures at end February 2010). The rates of the car should be between 319,800 and 364,800 yuan (between 35,000 and 40,000 euros).
TMC has worked to greatly encourage the popularization of hybrid vehicles in China. By late 2005, the Toyota Prius has become the first hybrid vehicle sold in China. The Prius was followed in 2007 by the arrival of the luxury sedan hybrid LS 600h Lexus premium brand, followed by the Lexus RX 400h crossover (and RX 450h), in 2009 the GS 450h sedan. The Camry Hybrid becomes the fifth of Toyota hybrid to be marketed in China.
