oyota is voluntarily recalling about 245,000 Lexus cars sold in the U.S. because of a possible problem with the fuel pressure sensor installation. The models affected by the recall are 2006-07 GS 300 and GS 350, 2006-09 IS 250, and 2006-08 IS 350. Insufficient tightening of the fuel pressure sensor, which is connected to some engine fuel delivery pipes that have nickel-phosphorus plating, may cause the pressure sensor to loosen. If this happens, fuel could leak past a gasket that's used in the connection between the sensor and the fuel delivery pipe. It could also leak through the threaded part of the sensor. Toyota says there have been no reports of accidents due to the defect, and we'll have more information once the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration releases the Defect Information Report later today. Splashed throughout the year 2010 by reminders of his series models, the Japanese giant is once again facing a technical problem requiring a massive intervention in its servicing network. The Japanese Ministry of Transport announced yesterday that Toyota's 1.6 million total would be affected by this recall campaign. Two failures on a pipe and a pump were identified with a consequent possible fuel leak. For now only 119 cases have been reported but no accidents were reported. 16 models produced between May 2000 and October 2008 are affected by this campaign of which 1.2 million copies in Japan and 421,000 abroad, mostly in North America (280,000), Germany, Russia and New Zealand.
