Caterham Project V: The Electric Sports Car That Breaks Every Expectation

2012 Porsche 918: New supercar expected for Detroit Motor Show 2011

Porsche favored in recent years, the Los Angeles Auto Show to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. 2011, Stuttgart, however, are again on show in Michigan (15 to 23 January) represented, and that with even a world premiere. What will be the sharing of Stuttgart not, but according to unconfirmed rumors is a new super sports car. Our artist has made from the car is already an image.

The new car will be positioned over the 911 and could face the Italia Ferrari 458, Lamborghini LP 570-4, and the Superleggera starting in spring 2011 McLaren MP4-12 start. However, the new Porsche start only in 2014. If one takes the measure of the competitors, the new supercar should have a 600 horsepower engine and cost around 200,000 €. As the drive would be in the power range of the six-cylinder turbo from the 911 GT2 offers with 620 hp or the much less efficient from the R8 V10 Biturbo GT from Audi Group partners, who then delivers 560 hp. But the new Porsche is to get a V8 twin-turbo as the McLaren, but not with the rear, but with all-wheel drive. As with McLaren, the weight of carbon use is reduced.

A hybrid drive would be easy as the 918 Spyder. In at the Geneva Salon 2010 presented mid-engine study worked a plug-in hybrid system, consisting of a V8 with 500 hp and electric motors on the front and rear suspension with a total capacity of again 218 hp. Together would give the a competitive performance - at a much lower consumption than in a pure combustion drive. That left the 918 is no mere gimmick, is certain: In the summer of 2010 the series development started. Let's call the new Porsche 918 Supercar so quiet

  1. Nice car, but way too expensive! Even with that discount it costs what I paid for my brand new 320i coupe last year, and I know what I'd rather be driving. And are those who pay in excess of £20k for cars that concerned about the long term savings. I dont buy into the big Co2 lie anyway and I think this car will sell to those who want to sit in their car, smugly thinking to themselves, 'I'm not poluting the planet'. Well I dont believe I am when I'm driving my petrol car! Even if the big pollution argument has some truth to it, which I'm sure it has, electric cars will have to be as cheap to buy as the equivalent petrol model before the masses will buy into it!
