Hyundai will re-enter the affordable coupe market this year with the Veloster, shown for the first time at the Detroit motor show.
The new car has the unusual layout of a single door on the driver’s side and two conventional doors on the passenger side. Hyundai says this format is the same on both left and right hand drive models.
When it arrives in the UK, the Veloster will be “priced between the Renault Megane Coupe and VW Scirocco”, according to Hyundai sources.
Anyway, more interesting thing here is that Veloster strongly reminiscent of the coupe, but at the same time provides the functionality inherent in the hatch. This is possible thanks to the extra door on the passenger side with a hidden handle helps to keep the compartments typical design.
Running the Veloster is entrusted to the all-new 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine Gamma - the smallest of the power units of Hyundai, which uses technology GDI (gasoline direct injection).
GDI engine Gamma 1,6 is equipped with a change of camshaft phasing D-CVVT, develops maximum power of 138 hp at 6300 rpm and maximum torque of 167 Nm at 4850 rpm.
The car comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox or with the first transmission Hyundai's dual-clutch (DCT) with the same 6-degrees. It has eco mode (Active Eco), which removed the fuel consumption by 7%.
The vehicle boasts more with multiple security systems and equipment rich. Inside is an integrated multi-touch responding 7-inch screen that can play audio and video formats. The system also features a Pandora internet radio ("pull" Internet radio iPhone, Android and Blackberry), hard drive, Bluetooth connectivity with voice recognition, ability to load phone book, and rear view camera.
Veloster is equipped with a telematics system Blue Link. Crash and airbag deployment, it sends a signal to the user data and location of the car to a non-stop emergency center. The same procedure can be activated by pressing a dedicated SOS button in the car.
Blue Link offers opportunities for remote locking and unlocking doors, starting horn and lights and start the engine.
The system also notify the owner to activate the alarm via text message, email or call automatically, allows for notification of selected contacts from social networks including Facebook for its location - directly from the car and sending SMS with voice input text.
Blue Link carry out diagnostics of the vehicle, notifying the driver of any problems and gives instructions for immediate action, inform the owner via email or SMS about upcoming maintenance and sending monthly reports full results of testing, the system eco-coach and other important information.
The new technology provides for measures against theft of the car as well as opportunities for area control of movement and speed of the car (suitable for control of teenagers by their parents). Blue Link includes all the features of the most sophisticated navigation systems.
Still no information on when Veloster will enter the market.
